India is a strange country. The picture is different. People of same stock there have progresively beocme strangers to one another. Psychologically, they might be said to belog to different countries, to different civilization, to differnt centuries. In India, is a wonderful museum of living human specimens

The fault for this state of affairs lies largely with the Hindus. Hindu orthodoxy is soul-destroying. The day food, drinks and clothes captured India`s religious thinking, India lost all sense of proportion. Indian remain without poise and balance evern today

India`s bevaviour for long has ben shoking. A boy or a girl eating beef was driven away from his or her home and flug onto the desert islands of otherness. Outcasting was a passion with India. Gandhi was thrown out of his communicty because he had dared to visit such an unholy country as good old Albion, then the shrine of respectability. Hinduism, moved by some destructive impulse, has never ceased to be champion chuker-out. What is the result? India has culpably weakened herself

American industrial democracy, which has thrown the doors of opportunity wide open for merit, has brought all the disparate groups together. Equal chances for all is the binding force of a united people

The social democracy of these people, except for the Negroes, puts the President and the workers in ovralls in the same category as fellowcitizens. They intermigle whereever they meet on equal terms

While in factories and in offices, they may be bosses or workers, but outside they are both citizens. The labourer does not cower before the top man, nor doesthe top man seek to make hisself important. A factory gir, outside of a factory, is so dressed as to bemistaken for a lady of high society

In fine, Americans do not carry with them the insignia of theri office. Whatever theri station in life, they are fellow-workers in a common cause-how to live better and better

This is only a small touch on some of the ways by which foreigners, entering the United States, become part oand parcel of the American scene. The pull of the country is so voilent that it quickly erases all alienisms. In the next blog we shall discuss India

America, like India, has on her hands the problem of unadjusted communities. Being conscious of this and of its danger to her vitality, integrity and nationalsolidarity, she is strunggling to solve it. She has succeeded to some extent, but how? Her methodsare valuable for India

First, she has encouraged one language, English. By every means possible. Sooner or later, all immigrants begin to speak and think in this national tongue

Then, they have cultivated one way of living. Their food, cloths, houses, habits, amusements and other ways if existence are common to all and within the reach of all. They have no dispossessed classes. Not even the negroes are that; many of them despite their black skin, earn enugh to make the white man in Europe green with envy

In India, it is ironical it is that Indian Muslims who in the bulk, belong, racially and culturally, to the Hindu stock- this is so of 95% of them- bave, by change of the religious cap, make themselves aliens in their own motherland. They have been tought to give loyalty to Mecca, when Mecca itself keep changing hands from time to time. What a position to be in both for Indian Muslims and for India!

England had to grapple with the same problem at one time. Happily, thee cam on the scene a man like Henry VIII, who overthrew the Papacy with the same case with which he overthrew his latest paramour. Anyhow, England did not get rid of her religious-complex until in the 19th century, when she ultimately gave the franchise to Catholics, Jews, and Nonconformists

The emasculation of India, from which she has not recovered yet, progressed rapidly. Being worshippers of the cow, Indian were themselves transformed into holy cows. That hovine quality still clings to Indians. At international gatherings our speakers never roar, they always make sounds that remind us of lowing

When India had become almost grass-eaters, Islam entered. Indians had the capacity to absorb it (being stirct vegetarians), though sporadic efforts were made in this direction from time to time, so to say, "garden escapes". Think of Kabir and Guru Nakak and the lovely stream of musical mysticism know as Sufi poeptry. However, not being able to disest Islam, India tolerated it, but kept strictly aloof from it. It did not even matter to India, such as wealkings we had become, that some of our children were being coverted by this militant creed, whose felicities and futilities were equally ignored by us

Islam, then like certain communities in the United States, remained an unassimilated chunk in Indian midst. It is in India, but it is not of our country

In India, they Aryans had no trouble into their fold the Dravidians and other inhabitans of India. The later conquests were more ripples on the surgace of Indian society. The Greeks, the Scythians, the Huns and many other tribes were quitely digested

Consider the case of Mendander. He was a Greek by race, but he was in all essentials a Buddhist and a good Indian

Hindus have always been omnivorous, but at a certain time an enfeebling germ entered their bloodstreem and destroyed their reserve powers. Mahavira and the Buddha cannot escape responsibility in this matter. They turned a nation of he-men (who ate and drank everything copiously-beef, pork, mutton and liquors of various kinds) into a people of feminine psychology and temperament, afraid to touch meats and spirituous drinks. India become tender, of course, without knowing what to be tender about

Even when Buddism had driven away from India and its ideas incorporated into Indian teachings, the trapping of the faith of Sakya-Muni lingered in Indians, with such a tenacity that men began to be disinguished by the clothes they wore, the food they masticated, and the drink they swallowed

India`s republican constituion has accepted a secular stte. What, in effect, does this mean?

Have India with a stroke of the pen abolished castes, creeds, and races in the country? Or is it India`s wishto let each and every faith flourish like the green bay-tree in spendid isolation?

India has no stte religion at present. The same is true of the United States, but certainly not of Britain, Italy, or Spain. Russia has done away with all old forms of belief, but has enthrouned in their place a brnad-new creed-Communism-which in some sense demands more fanatical allegiance than any knowncredo in history

Securism may a new concept to the West, but it has been practice by Indians for thousands of years. However, it was something quite differenct from what obtains with india at the moment

Sunderblogger.007 It's often difficult to say no because of the desire to be loved: we want to be helpful, we want to show we care, but we may have little to give, are tired, overworked, or need alone time. Do you feel that if you aren't there for someone, they may reject you? Or that you're somehow obliged to help as it makes you a good' person, parent or friend? Do you ever feel validated by being needed? It's easy to believe that any time you take to relax or meditate is time that could be used elsewhere. But taking time out doesn't mean it is selfish or even wasted time. Think about what happens when your day is spent constantly caring for others. Do you get resentful, irritated, or even angry? Do you find stress building up? Does the quality of care that you offer become affected by that inner tension? Or are you so used to being this way that it seems impossible to imagine being any other way? You may even think you're not the relaxing type, or that if you do relax you won't be able to cope with all the things you have to do. However, by taking time for yourself, by lowering your blood pressure and releasing stress, you are immediately creating a more harmonious environment that can only benefit all those around you. When you take time out to be quiet it means you don't get so angry, resentful, or frustrated; instead, you connect with who you really are. Then what you share with others is coming from that peaceful space. When you are energized and feeling good you will be able to do far more than if you are dragging yourself through your day with little energy or in a bad mood. So, rather than being selfish, such activity is actually the least selfish thing you could do! This is when saying no to others means you are affirming yourself. The power of saying no is that you are empowered! Best Wishes Sunder Thadani

In India, the problem is that o selection. Indians have rarely culivated this faculty. Indian thinking has generally been diffuse and diffusive. Now is the time for India to develop a gift for choosing out Indian experience. The whole world has before s; Indian have only to stretch out Indian hands to grasp what Indian seeks. India has continue to fmble. Wherefore? BecauseIndian has lost her innocence of eye. Names hypnotize Indians; Indians do not perceive what lies behind them. Indian must be, if Indian is to progress, free enough to be couragous and courageous enough to be free. India has to understand that knowledge is an arc that no one has yet completed; there is much still that awaits the enterprising explorer

Once again we must say to Indians; "Aham asti Brahma" (I am Brahma). If each Indina comes to believe in that "idee-force" of his race, there will be an unsurge of new confidence, leading to a fresh dawn

India has not yet discovered its true Indianess. An Indian goes about in borrowed plumes, cuttinga queer figure for the delight of all. Poor unfortunate being

In India, acting on the stage or for the screen is incredibly bad; it moves from clowing to swooning. The hero indulges in childish antics and the heroine, watching him in dazzled amazement, falls into his arms with a yell or a sob. Happilly, one producer of orignal vision has appeared on the scene; he is the Bengali Satyajit Ray, who is likely to astonish the worldmore and more. This is something to be grateful for to the gods; but one swallow, does not make summer.

India`s spiritual imprisonment continues. How Indian are going to get out of it? Not by dropping Westernism; not by going for illuminatin to the Red Paradise; not by rushing hither and thither, picking up unconsidered trifles, but simple by being Indians. Indians have a deplorable tendency to carry the bags of other peoples and races

India taint of otherness is unable to move. Indians are wearing caps that do not fit them. A singular exception was Aurobindo, who, having browsed in many fields of thought, never suffered from spiritual eructation. He assimilated everything and then uttered forth from a fuller mentality. But he was alone; he has left behind no heir to his light. The rest in philosophy is not silence, but an idle repetition of idle pomposities

India has had only two critics; the Buddha and Patanjali, bot of whom lived ages ago. Since those happy days the breed seems to have died out. Indian contemporary pedagoues and professors are truly pathetic figures, mouting with lofty airs the openions of other people. When they try to think for themselves, as somettimes happen, they give us nothing but learned squawks and squeaks

In India, the music and dancing begins with boredome with its sickening monotony. It is the copy of the copy. What little newness is to be found in it comes from Europe, particularly Russia. Indian best exponents of the art are still the pioneers: Udhay Shankar, Ram Gopal, and Mrinanli Sarabhai, who have had the courage to put new life into the old forms

There is little freshness in our painting too: most of our artists are mere cameras, reporuding something from this or that land. Two painters, however, stand out: Amrita Sher Gil and Elizabeth Brunner, both miles ahead of ther contemporaries; but they are not Indians-one is half-Ungaraian and the ohter totally so. There is only on master: Jamini Roy, who is fast becoming a factory

Who left India two years older than we were? The British. They gave India almost the status of being the children of the oldest civilization of the earth. Who discovered the wonders of Ajanta caves? Again, the British. From whom did we get an inkling of the Upanishads? It fell to the lot of a Frenchman, Anquetil Duperron. And who gave these masterpieces, then available in crude translations, world-wide importance? a German. Schopenhauer

Most of us were as;eep. A few, like Ram Mohan roy, were aware of the deeper realities, but they were voices in the widlerness. Even now, despite the laudable efforts of Dr. Radhakrishanan, we do not know properly our own past. Then alone shall we have the type of the education that free India requires. When this has been done, individual, social and national discipline will come as spontaneously as light from the sun. Then India will be the land that Gandhi dremeamed of- a land where a free spirit will meet another free spirit, a land where there will be neigher high or nor low, a land where the words native and foreigner will be unknown. We cannot experct much from our present educators and political guides. As we have sen, exceptions apart, they are themselves but distorted images of conflicting and contradictory isms.

What shall we do? to begin with, we have to study afresh the old discipline; then, without undue delay, we have to consider as to how much of it will suit us to-day; finally, a through investigatin has to be made of the educational systems of the great countries of the world. In Indian, as long as stict rules were applied to the bringing up of the yourng, especially in the various forest schools of ancient days, India produced an ideal home life, a co-ordinated individual and a co-oridnated society. It was during these periods that the greatness of India was displayed itself in its planitude.

After the Age of the Guptas (400-800 A.D), when India filled the world with emblems of beauty and power, decay set in and the cause of it was that this tried and tested system of education was neglected and then abandoned.

Not only the individual fell, but- and this is far worse- the cohesive principle of Indianism, which kept India united from Samarkand to Ceylon, began to give way. Indian spiritual oneness, which had defied all conquests, now split up into unco-related fragments

Indians are tought not to share their advantages with others but to stick to them for themselves. "That is for you," the father will say to his first born, offering a gift, "go and hide it." The mother behaves in similiar fashion; she will buy delicacies and give them on the sly to her youngest child. One day she is certain to be found out, and then will rise a terrific rumpus. But it subsidies as quickly as it comes. In Indian homes no attempt is made to treat all the children alike; there are always the favourites, who make their position felt by everyone. But that is not all: one sone will turn up at eight 0`clock and ask for a hot meal; another will arrive long, past midnight, wake the snoring cook, and order his food. It is is not only the menfolk who act in this way but the girls as well; each of them feels hungry at a different time. No consideration whatsoever is shown to the servant, who is in charge of the kitchen; he has to sit in fornt of braziers or gas stoves from early morning to very late in the night. Oftern a spoiled chil will request for something, and then, when dish is brought before him, change his mind and ask for a different fare. continueing as no. 116- The foundation of all discipline lies, at home, but an Indian home, rich or poor, is a veritable bedlam. Here, apart from the tyrannny of a single individual, male or female, everybody does as he or she likes. Obedience, if any, is verbal: the root behaviour is based on personal comfort and advantage. Let us enter an Indian home at breakfast-time. No member of the family, if it is well off, wants to eat the same things; one desires boiled eggs and tea, an other, something else, a third, what he or she happens to fancy at the moment, and so the demands are made. The poor cook tries to satisfy six or seven people at the same time. He fails to do this and gets everone a berating.[next will continue as no. 117]

Jesus had to lay aside power in order to help. He regarded even almightiness as useless. His hands had to be nailed to the cross to prevent him from doing good. Gandhi, too, was make of the same mettle. When India was celebrating her independence he was moving on the dusty roads of Indian villages, with pilgrim staff in hand, trying to console the fear-stricken. He had to be buthered to stop him from drying the tears of the unhappy not only in Indian but in all lands. Was this teaching in vain? [continueing as no.114] Labour movements existed in the West and their chief aim is to secure for workers adequate wages and continous employment, which alone can improve their standard of living. This idea is unknown to Indian working classes. These men can either be ground down or made to demand imposssible terms. They just do not understand their own interests, nor di they have any ambition to plan for a life-long prosperty. Indian, not excluding the educated, are branded with the iron of selfishness. Even our elite are not free from it. Where is our thinkers or artist who is pleased at the success of his rival or clolleague? As for working for the food of all, that is not to be dreamed of. Every one of our intellectuals thinks that he is the only intellectual in India. the others, they can`t be any good, can they? contiueing as no. 113- An elderly woman, lean and dark as a crow`s feather, stepped forward and, falling on her knnes, said: "We have nowhere to go and nothing to eat. Please help us, please, please." Here the Minister detached himself, shifted from one foot to another, and thus spoke: "You people are lazy. Why don`t you do something off your own bat? Why must you always wait for the Government to help you? However, U`ll see to it that you get some food and mateal to construct new huts." All the officials climbed into their cars and returned to the Minister`s house, where a banquet had been arranged for the evening. What was amazing not that we had a sumptuous meal, over which no one spoke of the plight of the victims of the flood, but that none of those who suffered rebelled. They just took their lot for granted. One day in the most distant furture the Indian under-dogs will revolt. There are signs thatthey are beginning to be conscious that something is readically wrong somewhere. When they come to a full realization of theri position, that theri ills are mostly man-made, they will begin to smash up everything. Some years ago there were floods in a certain state in India. Many poor people lost their houses, belongings, and, what was worse for them, their only cow or goat. This scene can make anyone ashamed of certain things in India. There in front stood fifty or sixty homeless people, all huddled together on a dry piece of land, their clothes wet and their teeth chattering. They were cold and hungry, with utter despair in their eyes. Seeing officials before them, they rose to their feet, waded through the slush, and approached them withhands folded in respect. They took a minor military officer to be the Minister, for he was in rsplendent uniform, while the real Minister, wearing dhoti and sandals, looked like any other ordinary Indian. Indian profiteers, who merely accumulate wealth irrespective of social consequesces, will one day end up like our friend the medieval bishop. They are frantically digging their own graves. The folly and cupidity of some of Indians are staggering. During the much-talked-of Bengal famine, when horror piled upon horror, and children could be seen in the streets with emaciated faces and bloated bellies, oftern picking up bits of food from the rubbish heaps or dustbins, grain lay in huge quantities in godowns and could be had at a price. The whole thing was blamed on to the British, but not a word was said about our own dear delightful bakckmarketeers. And then to make the sombre picture still more ghastly, at that difficult time the big hotels in Mumbai, Bengal. Delhi gave for one meal encough food to satisfy the hunger of four ment. Even now, while some have not enough to eat, others waste enormous quantities of food. [next will continue as no. 112] Kind Regards! Sunder T

Walter Lipmann once said that revolutions were not the work of the scheming intellectuals or the disgrunted elements, bt were entirely due to the stupidity of the conservatives and the well-to-do clases. That is true. If a revolution comes to India, as it well might, it will be because of the folly of our moneyed calssles- by they merchats, landlords, or industrialists. These men, as we see them today, are happily waling on dynamite which their own short-sighttedness has planted and are lighting their way with matches. India has a peculiar set up. Each Indian likes to play lone wolf, hoping to keep all the profits to himself, he refuses to work with others, even when he realizes that by so doing he could turn a losing proposition into a paying one. He believes in all for himself or nothing. This is the basic reason why parnerships in India are never a success. Because of such mentality the concept of a joint-stock company did not germinate in India economic thinking. Even today it has not fully taken root. Indian workers are no less self-centered that our other classes. They live and toil for the day. Excellent craftsmen many of them are, but they do not believe in producing anything with sustained offort, nor do they maintain the same standard which might procure for them steady orders. Indians are thus their own destroyers, because they work entirely for personal, immediate interessts; their prosperity is not uniform, and they don`t look to the future or to the future of their trade. If Indian merchants and industrialists realized the value of co-operation they would make more money and with greater safety. In this way they would not only enrich themselves but also others, which would a reassurance of their own prosperity. As they have failed to appreciate this, their wealth does not stand on secure foundations. [Next will continue as no. 110] Kind Regards! TheSunderkt

sunderblogger.blogpost.130114b

SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF INDIAN WOMEN, MEN AND TRANSGENDER PEOPLE WITHIN INDIA, BOTH ADULTS AND CHILDREN, IS WIDESPREAD Sexual exploitation of Indian women, men, transgender people and children within India, is widespread.12 Commercial sexual exploitation takes place in specific established areas but is also now much more dispersed into rural areas, transport hubs, roadside restaurants and houses in suburban areas, extensively using cell phones, making it harder to locate and tackle. Foreign women, largely from Nepal and Bangladesh, have been identified in situations of commercial sexual exploitation.13 In 2011, the ILO Committee of Experts “noted the Government [of India’s] indication in its 2008 Report that since the enactment of the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976 (BLSA), 287,555 bonded labourers had been identified, of whom 267,593 had been rehabilitated.”14 However, the ILO Committee of Experts also noted that “findings from research studies showed that bonded labour in agriculture and in industries like mining, brick kilns, silk and cotton production, and bidi making was likely to be affecting millions of workers across the country.”15 The ILO Committee of Experts has urged India to undertake national bonded labour surveys. Also, the identification and rehabilitation noted by the ILO Experts happened a long time ago, and in many Indian States local officials are not currently encouraged or supported to find bonded labourers.16 The 2012 UNODC Global Report on Trafficking in Persons noted a global dimension to trafficking flows originating in South Asia.17 Indian nationals who have migrated for work have found themselves in modern slavery – often involving recruitment intermediaries and debt bondage – around the world. They have been exploited in various industries including construction, mining, agriculture and hospitality, in manual labour and commercial sexual exploitation, as well as in private domestic work and as domestic staff at Indian diplomatic missions abroad. sunderblogger-blogpost.130114a

MANY OF INDIA’S ENSLAVED HAVE NOT BEEN MOVED FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER – THEY ARE ENSLAVED IN THEIR OWN VILLAGES Reports consistently note that India’s most significant challenge is the high number of Indian citizens in various forms of modern slavery within India’s borders. For example, the 2013 US TIP Report that suggests ninety per cent of trafficking in India is internal.7 Some of these results from internal migration, as migrants can originate from poor rural communities, lured to relatively wealthier cities by brokers on the false presence of employment. Internally trafficked men, women and children make up significant shares of the workforce in construction, textiles, brick making, mines, fish and prawn processing and hospitality.8 However it is important to note that many of India’s enslaved have not been moved from one place to another – they are enslaved in their own villages. Many are trapped in debt bondage to a local landowner or born into slavery because of caste, customary, social and hereditary obligations. Forced labor has been identified in factory work, agriculture, brick making, mining and quarrying, the textiles and garments industries, domestic work, and forced begging. Bonded labor, whether through debt or other forms of ‘bondage’ of workers, is rife in stone quarries, brick kilns, construction and mining.9 The difficulty for internal migrant workers in accessing protections and government entitlements, such as the food rations card, which is based on a worker’s residence, is thought to increase vulnerability to exploitation.10 Likewise for those enslaved in their own area, corruption or non-performance of safety nets (such as the National Employment Guarantee, food rations, primary health care and pensions) and practices of land grabbing and asset domination by high caste groups (or for commercial development) leaves people without protections. Some of those affected by slavery in India do not officially exist – they have no birth registration or ID so it can be hard for them to access protective entitlements. Kind Regards! Sunder T

What technology can do is to offer the priceless oppoutunity for less trained healthcare providers to perform more sophisticated functions. You will observe that The English instantly forger their party difference in the presence of an eternal danger. Not os in India. Today, for example, follow-travellers are playing the role of pettery kings; they hope to climb to power on Russian roubles and rifles. Poor deluded beings! After a brief capering on the stage, liquidation will be theri lot. they are brilliant, they think, but thier brilliance is so bright that it does not show them what is happening from the fate of fellow-travellers in the baltic countries- Poland Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hundgry, Roumania, and so on and so forth. But to come to the Vaishyas- our trading classes. their individualism is not rugged but raaged; they are shrewd, hard-working, intelligent, daring, but lacking in the co-operative spirit. Their motto seems to be; "Each one for himself and the devil take the hindmost." Kind Regards! Sunder T

India has learned one thing from British the exteranl of Eurpeanism: Indian kniw, atleast the sophiscticated amongst them, how to use knife and fork; how to do the latest dance; how to play bridge or rummy; hot to go to the races or to cocktail prties, but their inwardness-that which is called their nationa spirit and which makes them what they are- escapes to Indians altogether. The British are strong because fundamentally they are one. What is the difference between Mr. Harodl Wilson and Mr. Edward Heath? That of mere accent and emphasis; the larger goals to be achieved are the same. The Englishman, however much he hates another Englishman, will, rare exeptions apart, always give him preference over a foreighner. In India it is just the opposite. The Kshtriya selfishness sowed the seeds of its own doom. An exeptional individual who had amition or a grievance and had a follwoing at once set out to carve out for himself a kingdom. At times he invited foreigners, even enemies of the country, to help him to estabish a principality or to outst a rival. Very oftern the friend remained to rule, even his host. The "chalega ie. anything goes" is the curse of India; it is the mortal enemy of efficiency, tneterprise, pride in one`s handiwork. It is putting the seal of approval on ineptitude. The Kshatriyas, builders of political power in India, tried tomonopolize the chief arm of the state- the army. They were so zealous of the privilage that they did not allow others to join their ranks. The result of the pernicious attitude was that the clannish armies were neither strong enough nor numerous enough nor united enought to withstand a determined invader. Their loyalties were not to the country but to some given individuals. We can now understand why, in so mnay Indian wars, the army fled when the leader was killded or taken prisoner. Thus, in our social set-up, the concept of a citizen army could not take root. It is one of the greatest contributions of British rule in India that we have now armed forces that owe allegiance not to this or that person but solely to the state. Kind Regards! Sunder T

The English surf suffered for about eight undred years from 1066 to 1833; his brother in India has groaned for thousand of years and still continues to groan. The point is, such has been the pressure of metaphysical scoundrelism that the victims have always accepted their lot as a devine dispensation. India`s social organization was veritabel nest of hornets. It stung everybody without benefiting itself in any way. The Braminis thought that by keeping all others in ignorance, in matters spritual and intellectual, they would be the sole beneficiaries of the rights and perquisities conferred by society. While, for a period, they did enjoy these benefits, they have in the long run proved to be their own and India`s worst enemies. the fact that the vast masses deliberately kept without light soon darkened their own minds. There was no stimulus to keep up to the mark or to take a leap forward. The noton of "chalega or it will do" crept in and rotted everything. Kind Regards! Sunder T

In India how is it that a people who have developed great intellectual and spiritual powers, as also aestetic sensibilities, have become victims of self-hypnosis? It is a low of all conquest that conqueror tries to grab all possible advantages to himself and his followers. This may be called the spoil system. It has flourished at all times. India`s day is by no means free from it. Aryab invaders of India, despite their beautiful invocations to the verious deities, were throughly earth-bound, and took whatever they could lay ther hands on. But they did one thing which no conqueror in the history of the world has ever done or thought of doing; they codified, philosophized and spiritualized their villianies. Kind Regards! Sunder T

The new prime minister could reduce reservation in education and jobs by 1-2 % every year, which will help banish casteism from our society by 2030. It is time for India to have such a transformational prime minister –one who will modernize India`s cities, solve agriculture and water woes, break the shackles of casteism, bring about manufacturing revolution and improve government efficiency. subject: Corruption vs inefficiency In India, more than corruption, it`s gross inefficiency that is the biggest problem. Corruption is only part of the cause of our failures on all these and other fronts. the other,if not major, reason for Indian being unable to get things done is our genius for bungling, for getting things wrong instead of getting them right. India has a lesson to learn from China and Thailand; be corrupt if your must, but with it be efficient; take the money, but deliver the goods. India`s biggest bane is not corruption, it is not that people in power steal money; it is that those who steal our money seem incabable of accormlishing anything- from building a user friendly highway to eliminating poverty through subsidies and other schemes. Arvind Kejriwal`s AAP has risen like a desi avatar of St George to battle the dragan of corruption. But it might have an even bigger ogre to combat in the form of system ineptitude which just can`t make things work. That`s the real job cut out for AAP. Sunderblogger.201 Lokpal bill has kindled hopes of curbing graft, but more needs to be done to banish the menace of Corruption. Nothing emboldens the corrupt more than the belief that there will be negligible or no consequences for their corrupt behavior. The Lokpal will, hopefully, contribute in some measures to create the nexus between crime and punishment. The following steps are necessary. (1) Reform of funding and financial accountability of political parties. (2) A systematic increase in the neutral intervention of technology into as many as possible where the common man has to deal with government. (3) Finalization of model legal framework ensuring transparency and fair play in all transactions relating to the disposal and acquisition of national resources and government procurement processes. (4) Instituting deterrent action in a time bound and exemplary manner for all acts of corruption, which in turn, presupposes substantive judicial reforms. The seed of corruption is the link between Politian’s and political parties and unaccounted money. Anna Hazare has taught us that public pressure is a potent weapon in compelling reform. The onus to put that pressure lies on the people of India. Kind Regards! Sunder T

Can Barack Obama`s chauffer take on the job of a company director even while continuing to drive the US president around? Can Mitt Romey`s driver do both such jobs at the same time? Nope, It`s only in India where such inspiring success stories are possible Drivers, peons, munims(Accountants), astrologers, who are part of the Gadkari network of companies have all shown a commendable flair for business affairs and have been suitably rewarded with high corporate office. Moreover, the BJB leader is not the only one under whose benevolent disposition such enterprise has been encouraged to thrive. Similar success stories abound right across India`s political spectrum. The reason for his is simple. Unlike elsewhere, in India the danda (stick) of the law is accommodative of `h`s, as in `hera-pheri`(cheating). Self-importance is the cause for divisions at any level. Sunderblogger.193 Stress is a disease of the 21st century. Everyone seems to be in stress from a child to a retiree. What disturbs the mind? You believe a bad boss, nagging spouse or the weather causes you grief. The truth is that nothing in the world can disturb you except yourself. Stress is defined as mental turbulence caused by unfulfilled desire. As long as a desire remains unactualised you will be in stress. Yet desire is being recklessly fuelled and people are n stress. When you rise above desire and work for something beyond, the object of desire comes to you. Then you can enjoy it thoroughly with a calm mind. So what is the way out? The first step is to manage desire with intellect. If the intellect approves, go ahead and fulfill the desire without fear or guilt. But if the intellect vetoes it, keep away. This gives relief. The next step is desire reduction by upgrading desires. Pick up a higher desire. The lower one drops. Finally, when the lure of the Infinite grips you all desires vanish. You are in Bliss. Sunderblogger.189 our attitude towards other in our workday life reflects like this “Day after day countless creatures are going to the above of heaven yet those that remain behind believe themselves to be immortal”. We believe that what happens to others will not happen to us. We apply different stands to evaluate our own behavior and that of others in all fields of activity. The `other`, across cultures, has been seen variously as a friend- an extension of oneself- or as a foe posing a threat to one`s freedom. The other has been seen by some as deserving our concern or respect, by some as an opportunity for solidarity or mutual transformation, and by some typically as an unwelcome practical, political or cultural limitation. The other can be the ethnic, other, the cultural other, the religious other, the national other or simply the other gender. Kind Regards Sunder Thadani

Sunderblogger.187 In our life we seem to assume and ascribe false identities. We tend to hold a person responsible for what he did; good or bad, when spiritual wisdom says that we are not the doers; the divine phenomenon behind creation, the doer. Thus, we deify someone when he obliges us in a significant way. On the other hand, if are hurt in some way by someone`s act of commission or omission. We nurse an enmity against him. Kind Regards! Sunderblogger.186 Indian Men go for looks Looks-conscious Indian males take to grooming & beauty treatments. Shaving, waxing and laser, the three modern warheads in mankind`s timeless fight against bod hair, are being aggressively deployed these days in a country where facial and torso hair once separated the men from the boys Disposal income spent by men on grooming is growing at a faster rate than by women. This can be estimated from the fact that, most men`s personal care categories are seeing faster growth At one skin clinic, the average billing by male consumers in the past few months has overtaken by a small margin that of female clients who spend around r.7000 Kind Regards Sunder Thadani

Sunderblogger.185 Seriousness is a disease, but seriousness has been praised, respected, honored. It was absolutely essential to be serious to be saint; hence only people who were incapable of laughter become interested in religion. And people who are incapable of laughter are not human yet- what to say about their being divine? That is impossible- they have not yet become human. Hence I have tremendous respect for the sense of humor; for laughter. Laughter is far more sacred that prayer, because prayer can be done by any one, It does not require much intelligence, Laughter requires intelligence. It requires presence of mind, a quickness of seeing into things. A joke cannot be explained; either you understand it or you miss it. If it is explained it loses the whole point; hence no joke can be explained. You get it immediately or you can try to find out the meaning of it; you will find out the meaning, but the joke will not be there. It was in the immediacy. Regards Sunder Thadani

Calibri (Body)Sunderblogger.184 To attain wisdom, we must purify the mind by making It free of all impure thoughts. First empty your mind; only then you can make room for wisdom to come in. Prepare the mind to face situations in a way that enables you to harness its potential. Living with a mind that is narcissist will impede progress. A life that is full of ego leaves no room for receptivity as one thinks about nothing else other than its own self. In order to receptive to truth, one must make the effort to be ready to recognize and receive the truth. Human beings have become conditional entities on account of habit. It is this conditioning that is a major obstacle on the path. To be able to overcome this hurdle, we must be ready to revisit existing ideas; be willing to rise above all kinds of biases and prejudices and become receptive to truth that may come from anywhere. Sunderblogger.183 Religion has been missing one very fundamental quality; the sense of humour; It`s unfortunate, because it has made religion sick. A sense of humor is an essential part of the wholeness of man. It keeps him healthy, young and fresh. And for centuries the sad people have dominated religion. They have expelled laughter- from churches, mosques and from temples. The day laughter enters back into the holy places they will be really holy, because they will be whole. Laughter is the only quality that distinguishes man from other animals. Only man can see the ridiculous, the absurd. Only he has the capacity and the consciousness to be aware of the cosmic joke; it is not a serious affair. [will continue in next]. Best Wishes! Sunder Thadani

Sunderblogger.182 Awareness is one of the greatest gifts that existence has given to human beings. All spiritual masters tell their students, “Become aware, increase your awareness,” and they suggest various methods to do so. Animals too have awareness, but that is more instinct driven. They are aware of hunger or thirst, or of danger and death, but purely by instinct. Animal awareness is mostly about the present, although some awareness does come to them from past conditioning too. Sunderblogger.181 in India, only one-third population lives in towns and cities. In Bihar in 2001 it was only 10%. India`s towns and cities desperately need fixing. Half of Mumbai lives in slumps, which is a natural disgrace. At the same time, we may have to think of building completely new cities and destroying older ones. That is a scary thought, but a time may come when it is better to destroy than to rehabilitate. Human habitation is not permanent, and India has several examples of urban settlements that were abandoned. We need to look long and hard at the future of urban policy and contemplate the best and the worst. Best Wishes! Sunder Thadani

Sunderblogger.175 Sub: Think India. India thrives on contradictions like no place else; any visitor, tourist, or business representative can expect the unexpected. Relying on a trusted Indian friend to act as buffer and to protect one from culture shock is helpful in this sometimes highly confusing country. At your hotel, they may not serve beef because of the reverence Hindus hold for the cow. Yet you may hear the conversation of Hindu man from Kerala seated at a nearby table telling his wife on a cell phone that he will return home tomorrow and would prefer a beefsteak for dinner. In a temple, where you might expect more familiar rules and behavior, you could be truly shocked to witness a sadhu (a holy man who customarily wears orange) amble in nonchalantly completely nude. Sunderblogger.174 India’s Unlimited Opportunities. With an average GDP growth rate of 8% each year there has been a lot to cheer abut in India. During this phase, there has been a massive increase in the growth of individual wealth in India. It is reported that India’s HNWI (High Net worth Individual) population grew by 23% which makes it fastest growing globally. At the end of 2007, the number of HNWI was at 1.23 lakh. HNWIs are defined as individuals with more than $1 million (it was INR 4 crores then) in net assets, excluding what they have as primary residence and consumables. Sunderblogger.173 There are two angles – good and bad- in the course of everyone`s life. The good angles encourages us to hear the inner voice of consciousness and he bad angles discourages s from listening to it, and influence us to focus instead only on materialistic ambitions for power and wealth. Light and sight fall in the category of good angles and are supplementary to each other. Sight has no benefit in the absence of light, and similarity, the presence of light makes no difference to the sightless. Kind Regards! Sunder Thadani

Sunderblogger.172 What is the secret behind successful marriages? One has to learn the art of commitment and not complain. [1] Marriage works when there is commitment but most marriages which fail, do so as they get blown apart by complaints. [2] Secondly everyone has comfort and discomfort zones. Learn initially to avoid the discomfort zone and log on to the comfort zone [3] Thirdly don`t let expectations control your lives but learn to give in a relationship more than you demand or beg from a relationship. How to adjust wisely, one has to learn. Don`t treat anything as a problem but an issue to handle. Learn to accept things and improve on things. Learn the art of empowering and beautifying the set-up. Treat it as fun and not as a social obligation but a social challenge. Don’t look only at equal rights but also at duties to be fulfilled. Kind Regards! Sunder Thadani
