Digital India promises to transform India into a connected knowledge economy offering world-class services at the click of a mouse. The project that aims to offer one-stop shop for government services would use the mobile phones as the backbone of its delivery mechanism. The project also seeks to give every household in rural India access to bank account, along with a RuPay debit card and insurance cover of Re.1 lakh. Today India imports electronic goods worth Rs. 100 billion and by 2020, this import is going to be about Rs. 400 billion, outgrowing even the oil imports. On E-governance, Facebook has also expressed interest in partnering with the Indian government in delivering governance programmes. Public transport- BEST: The management is all set to crack whip on erring drivers on signal jumping.
[1] CCTVs are to be provide on all 4200 buses by year-end.
[2] Stickers with helpline (1800-22-7550) on all buses
[3] 1663 buses have GPS. The remaining 3000 will be fitted with it by year-end
[4] 5 services on Eastern and 6 on SCLR to be introduced
[5] Ring routes at Dadar, Elphinstone, Mumbai Central, Seweri and Andheri to be introduced
[6] Private agencies to be roped in for pass renewals
Let us hope Mumbai`s public bus transportation is going to be commuter friendly very soon.
