Wi-Fi networks have the advantage of allowing many users to share the same internet connection. Given these advantages, a Trai consultation paper has estimated that under some assumptions cost per MB to Wi-Fi networks could be less than 2 paise per, as compared to around 23 paise for date charging cellular networks. Affordability lies at the heart of any attempt to enhance internet access. Trai`s`s attempt to invite public participation in suggesting ideas to enhance access has been underpinned by a broad description of public Wi-Fi networks. The regulator is looking at not just traditional telecom and internet service providers, but also a new class of entrepreneurs who see an opportunity in providing this service. It is the right approach as competitions have always worked in favour of customers. It spurs innovation and eventually improve access. However, it is important that when Trai gives its recommendations on the subject, it avoids a prescriptive approach. Access is best guaranteed when market forces prevail and regulators focus on protecting consumer interests. Trai`s recommendations will have salience and it is for the government to make necessary legal changes to actualize its slogans. The IndiaPost which plans to start operation from September 2017, will make Aadhaar number as payment bank itself. The bank will cover 650 districts of the country to simplify and universalize payment systems. At present 40, 00,000,000 bank accounts in India are linked with Aadhaar. Bharat QR to do away with swipe machines: Bharat QR, a quick response code jointly developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) that runs Rupay cards, Visa, MasterCard and American Express, under instructions form the RBI, is set to revolutionize electronic payment in the country. It does away with the swipe machines as digital payments can be done without traditional (black squares arranged in a square grid on a white background), machine readable optical label that contains information about the item to which it is attached. With the QR code, a customer no longer needs to enter the merchant`s ID or phone number to make payments. The payment can be made by scanning the QR code and entering the transaction amount is debited from the bank account without the need of a swiping machine. Bharat QR code has a static and dynamic variant. In a static QR code, the code has to be scanned before entering the amount on your smartphone, and authorized with a PIN, after the money will be debited.
