Sunderblogger.073 SELF DEFENCE - SAFETY TIPS Awareness is the key. Increasing your personal awareness is an integral part of crime prevention, and perhaps the single most important element of effective self-defense. An awareness of the reality of crime and violence, as well as an awareness of your environment, are the keys to your personal security. 1. Trust your instincts: Learn to trust your instincts and listen to what your intuition tells you. Trust those "little voices" when they tell you that something (or someone) "just don't look right. " All of your senses should come to full alert, and you should be prepared to take action (if it's necessary) to get out of the situation or away from that person as fast as possible. 2. Avoid presenting a victim profile: Crime victims are frequently chosen because they are easy targets. Criminals prey on the weak or unsuspecting, and usually avoid people who are aware of what's going on and might put up a fight. When people in the eye out in public, look, keep your head up, and walk with a confident stride. This tells the predator that you are more likely to see him coming and resist. Without the element of surprise, they will likely pass you up for someone who'll put up less of a fight. 3. Lights, people and noise: "Just use good common sense and remember to pay attention to what's happening around you, and you will go a long way towards keeping yourself safe... “Always remember that your greatest allies are lights, people and noise. These are the three things that criminals fear most, because they increase the likelihood that they will be seen or caught. 4. Your first priority is escape: If you do end up in a dangerous situation, remember that your number one priority is not to fight, but to escape. When faced with someone who demands your wallet, purse, jewelry etc... - give it to them, and get out of there. No possession, however valuable, is worth risking your life over. 5. You must react quickly: One of the greatest challenges to defending yourself is that in the real world (unlike in the movies) acts of violence usually happen very quickly. When an attack occurs suddenly (even though there are usually warning signs), you are at an extreme disadvantage, if you are not prepared to react. Pepper spray, stun guns and firearms are useless if you can't get to them instantly when you need them. So try to anticipate dangerous situations in advance (such as walking to your car at night) and prepare yourself to take quick action. 6. The element of surprise: Second to awareness, surprise is perhaps the most important element of effective self-defense. Using it to your advantage can give you a devastating edge in a confrontation. For example, you might pretend to be passive, by appearing to submit to your assailants wishes, only to attack them when they least expect it. You might also try to talk to your attacker, and then suddenly throw something at their face - and run. In any case, it will be your ability to stay as calm as possible, while you keep thinking, that will make the difference. PLEASE CIRCULATE THIS INFORMATION TO ALL!!! Best Wishes! Sunder Thadani

Sunderblogger.072 Subject: Art of selling you Living is selling. You sell yourself on going to your favorite restaurant. A husband and wife sell constantly. What movie shall we go to? Who takes the dog to the vet? And so on. Life is a sale. And the path to success at both living and selling is the same. Attitude matters. Attitude sells. To see what people really value watch when they put their money where their mouths are-literally. People make them feel good. Develop your skill, sharpen them more each day. People value- and pay more for – the way you make them feel. People buy feelings. Best Wishes Sunder Thadani

Sunderblogger.071 to learn something new everyday is a gift. One realizes this only if one`s mind is open to the world and to life. It could be as simple as learning a new word and its meaning; something that enriches one`s life in even in a small way, for every little bit of learning helps one becomes just that wee bit wiser. One might like to think one is smart and wise-but the truth is, it is the only with little experience in life that one realizes that life is a gift; it has something new to offer every single day. Suddenly, one could discover a new flower, tree or painting; one tries to understand what it is- physical enrichment because the physical is beholding something beautiful and one`s mind is trying to assimilate what it means. One can experience during one`s career and travels, meeting people, exchanging ideas- that have helped one to absorb and learn, to share and spread happiness, transcending geography, culture, and relationship. Sunderblogger.070 Subject: Recondition Your Mind. Conditioning is an integral part of life. Every human being is born in an environment, so everyone is subject to environmental conditioning. There is no exception whatsoever. So, every one of us is conditioned, one way or other. Everyone is bound to live a conditioned life. It is everyone`s fate and no one can escape from it. It is a fact that everyone is subject to conditioning but is also a fact that every form of conditioning can be reversed. Conditioning is a phenomenon of thinking. Thinking and counter thinking are both within the capacity of the mind. It is accepted that education is an important tool for personality development. At the same time, one must try to recondition one’s mind; otherwise one cannot receive the fruits of education. Those who look only at external factors invariably underestimate their own capacity. But those who discover themselves become free of this obsession and can meet all challenges. Recondition your conditioning and you will instantly emerge a new person even better than what you were in the past. Best Wishes Sunder.thadani

Sunderblogger.069 Aloneness considering the transitory nature of life, it makes sense to not to cling to things. And why are we so serious? Perhaps we are so serious because we have so much negativity. What cause a paid turns out to be the most beautiful blessing of life. If any source gives pain, feel gratitude for that. For suffering creates the opportunity for change. Sometimes we need pressure and pain to make us change for the better. Pain is a hammer in the hands of the Divine. Divinity is trying to make true figure. Keep alive your alones. We came from One and we have to become One. One is alone; alone means One. The highest possibilities of life can come in aloneness. When you are two, nothing comes to you, two is a pastime. If our life is happy, if it is full of the divine blessings, blessed by divine grace, it is because life gives us the fruits of aloneness. Only the Divine is alone. The Divine is one. He`s not two. We should feel gratitude if something or someone gives us the experience of aloneness. Only when we are alone, are we able to understand ourselves, to know who we are, to become aware of ourselves, to see the value of our lives. But we are always afraid of aloneness. Nobody wants to be alone, to be single; we want to become two, and two takes you out from you. Becoming one is a process of life. If we are alone, we should try to live with this aloneness for a long time. When we live with this and the seed of aloneness is established in us, a beautiful tree comes out. And the tree that comes from the seed of aloneness gives us love, peace, harmony, joy, bliss, everything. Best Wishes! Sunder Thadani

Sunderblogger.068 Most of us invariably take a look at ourselves in the mirror at least once a day. The mirror diligently and without being judgmental, reflects what is and what is not. We accept what it tells us without much complaint. We then try to better, in whatever way possible, that which is possible to change for the better and simply accept the rest as given. We take pride in what we have in terms of form, beauty and appearance and try not to dwell too much on what we lack outwardly. We may also resolve and work towards those areas that need to be improved. We step out of the house, with this `approved` confidence, and are ready to take on the world. Let`s say we are able to hold the mirror to reflect our mind and heart. Chances are that most of us don`t make the effort, perhaps because we my not approve of the kind of reflection we might get to see. It may be too much for our ego state to accept. It is never easy to get ourselves to accept what we don`t like to see n us, especially that which we cannot actually `see`. Your views, suggestions, or comments are most welcome. Kind Regards! Sunderblogger.067 Sub: Think India. India thrives on contradictions like no place else; any visitor, tourist, or business representative can expect the unexpected. Relying on a trusted Indian friend to act as buffer and to protect one from culture shock is helpful in this sometimes highly confusing country. At your hotel, they may not serve beef because of the reverence Hindus hold for the cow. Yet you may hear the conversation of Hindu man from Kerala seated at a nearby table telling his wife on a cell phone that he will return home tomorrow and would prefer a beefsteak for dinner. In a temple, where you might expect more familiar rules and behavior, you could be truly shocked to witness a sadhu (a holy man who customarily wears orange) amble in nonchalantly completely nude. Sunderblogger.066 A peaceful life is essentially a simple one and hence effortless. The sheer simplicity of peaceful life is a magnet that attracts, for deep within we identify with it. Sunderblogger. 064 we understand that to be successful is to arrive, to get somewhere; and so we worship success. We`re always thinking in terms of success, in terms of `more`, and the `more` is a relative idea dependent on what prevailing social norms consider to be respectable. If you do not live up to that societal, you are likely to be called a failure. But if you love to do something with all you being, you are then not concerned with success and failure. However, very few have the evolved perspective that allows them space to think this way. The whole concern of an intelligent person is to see things as they are and understand the problem- which is not necessarily about bracketing action in terms of being oriented towards success or failure. It`s only when we don`t really love what we`re doing, that we think in those terms. Didn`t a wise person say; “Success is a relative term; there`s nothing absolute about it?” What we think of as success today might be thought of as failure in another time and situation and vice versa. It would be in our best interest to view both what we call success and failure as relative states and so treat both success and failure with equanimity. Best Wishes Sunder Thadani

Sunderblogger.063 The best way for awareness of self to happen is slowly, from within, like daybreak when the brightness of the sun is experienced very gently, until it shines forth steadily. Such an experience of Self-awareness would need to happen out of the complete and expectant emptiness of mind, something that waits in hushed silence to be brought forth with divine intervention and the effort put in by the seeker. This way, as something that comes from within, Self-awareness would help the individual seeker make that cosmic conscious connection with the universal intelligence. You feel it as an effulgent presence, a consciousness that is pristine pure, completely free of any thought. In fact, we cannot grasp the quintessence of spirituality though thinking at all. Sunderblogger.060 One of the favorite sports of India`s middle classes is bureaucracy bashing. It is an easy game to play and can be quite a lot of fun. Everyone has their favorite, outrageous story about an encounter with the bureaucracy. The inefficiency, corruption, insensitivity, stupidity and Kafkaesque circularity of bureaucratic procedures and rules are legendary. That India`s bureaucracy is one the most stifling and difficult to deal with has now been revealed in a survey. Over a thousand expatriate business executive rated India`s bureaucracy the most annoying in Asia. The problem with India is no, as we in the middle class imagine, that we have too many idle and corrupt bureaucrats. The problem is that we have too many rules and regulations and too few officials to implement and monitor the regimes, and bring to book those who flout the rules and regulations. As India`s population grows, the disequilibrium is only going to grow: more rules and regulations to be applied to more and more people by a bureaucracy that is not high enough. A conclusion: either we expand the bureaucracy or else the government will gradually wither away to the point that India will join the ranks of failed states. That would be a calamity for the Indian people. Best Wishes! Sunder Thadani

Sunderblogger.057 Freedom from sex is not repression of sex: it the understanding of sex; by understanding, one goes beyond it. But that does not mean that you will be angry, against it and antagonistic. You will be blissful. You will bless everybody with the hope that someday, they will also go beyond it. Sex is not a sin. Nobody is ever punished or sent to hell for sex. God has given it to you, you are born with it; you have not created it- like the atom bomb, bayonet, sword, money or politics- these are inventions of the ugly human mind. These people will go to hell, certainly. But sex is God-given gift, and it is a great seed. Once it starts sprouting and finds the right soul, it will become a big tree. Millions of flowers will come to it. Your views, suggestions, or comments are most welcome and will be appreciated. Best Wishes Sunder Thadani

Sunderblogger.055 Head understands head and heart understands heart. We try to put the heart in the head and head in the heart and it doesn`t seem to work. Your heart feels something beautiful, and you can feel it. When head says something is beautiful, we cling on to the word; it`s there in the mind, but we might not feel what we feel when the heart says the same thing. We repeat the word ‘beautiful’ in the head but it doesn’t seem or feel beautiful the way it would have if it had come from the heart. Let us talk about love. It`s the same thing- you talk too much about love, the word love` gets stuck in the head, but somehow there no depth of feeling. That`s because it`s in the head, not in the heart. In silence, love emits, radiates. We experience ourselves in the things we love more. That is why, when we lose the things we love, we feel hurt; we fee unhappy. We are all floating in an ocean of life; a big life. It is not just empty space all around us; it is lively big life. And in the big sea of life there, all shells are floating and each shell has got a little water in it which is not the water separate from the water in the sea. so, we come out of our shells and experience, “I am not just in the body, but I am expanded all over; everywhere, it`s me there and it`s me here, I see myself in everybody”. Sunderblogger.054 On Hollywood –MGM Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the legendary 86 year-old Hollywood studio, is filling for bankruptcy. This relates to Hollywood`s style of functioning, marred by overblown budgets, unreal plots, unsure narratives and seeking novelty mixed with realism. In contrast stands Bollywood, the Hindi film industry steadily expanding over the globe. Bollywood`s themes are constantly energized by everyday culture and mythology while increasingly including edgy, experimental stories. Winner of 205 Oscars over the years, it is extraordinary that a studio of MGM`s stature should see such days. Despite holding 4,000 film titles including the sparkling James Bond series, the studio, bought in 2005 by a Sony-led consortium, has been plagued by debts of four billion dollars. It is anticipated that its lenders will now take over most of MGM, forcing it to re-scale operations. MGM`s crisis reflects greater troubles within Hollywood itself. In recent years, American cinema has increasingly been treated not as ‘show business` but pure business. Films have been based on market strategy, distribution networks and commercial calculations as opposed to simply being cinema that delights and thrills viewers through the forceful creativity driving it. Once, MGM made iconic films like Gone with the Wind, BenHur, The Wizard of Oz and Rocky. In recent times, despite the hype and hoopla surrounding Hollywood, it is hard to think of many movies which will live beyond their times, seeping into popular memory the world over. Your views, contributions, or comments are most welcome. Best Wishes! Sunder Thadani.
